The belgian born Bruno Pieters (born 1977) graduated from the Royal Academy
of Antwerp with honours in 1999 went straight to work as an assistant
designer for Martin Margiela, Josephus
Thimister and Christian Lacroix Haute Couture. He also worked as a freelance
designer for companies such as New York Industry (Milan) and Antonio Pernas
(Madrid).
In july 2001, Bruno presented as first belgian graduate of the Royal
Academy for Fine Arts Antwerp a couture collection during Paris Couture
Week. The collection was titled part I: daywear. the suit. The first couture
collection was a small presentation of 12 pieces based on the study of
one item, a 1950’s inspired suit.
Launching his first complete ready to wear collection in March 2002,
his latest collections are inspired by Pieters' penchant for technique
and craftmanship.
Bruno Pieters is first and foremost a “couturier", a technicien
who experiments with shape and proportion in his collections.
Bruno's work reflects the contrast between romanticism and realism, the
relationship between life and art.
Currently Bruno Pieters is also working for Europe’s oldest leather
house: Delvaux.
Bruno was invited to the Albomoda Festival in October 2004 in Moscow with
the designers A.F. Vandevorst and Haider Ackermann.
In March 2004 he provided costumes/skirts for the latest danceperformance
'Kassandra' of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas).
Roìsin Murphy, better known as Moloko, chose outfits of Bruno Pieters
for the events at the TMF awards last January.
Bruno has participated at several exhibitions throughout the world such
as "Goddess" in collaboration with MoMu,
Antwerp 2004.
Bruno Pieters designed masks for the ‘Bal Masqué’ event
in the Fashion Museum in Antwerp in April 2004.
In 2003 he collaborates on the t-shirt exhibition 'Safe the children',
a charity event, organised by Addition Adelaide in Tokyo.
Later that year, Bruno participated with other Belgian designers like
Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela in
the “Other fashion proposals” exhibition at the contemporary
fashion museum in Barcelona, Spain.
Also in 2003 he participated in the photo exhibition with singer Els Pynoo
of 'Vive la fête' in 'le Musée Galliera' in Paris.
In 2002 an exhibition is organised by the Fashion Museum Antwerp and was
entitled 'Backstage', where silhouettes of Bruno’s couture collections
were exposed.
For 'Pitti Filati' in 1999 some of Bruno’s designs were chosen as
'most creative knitwear' by the Flanders
Fashion Institute and Linea Piu. These designs were shown during the
Pitti Filati Fair.
In 1999 he collaborates on the ‘Geometry’ exhibition in Antwerp.
